The Childhood Care Council in Sudan has been honored by UNESCO with the prestigious Jamti Tres Bodet award in recognition of its success in combating harmful practices, such as the “Saliema” initiative, and its achievements in integrating orphaned children into society.
The Director-General of UNESCO presented the award to the Childhood Care Council, praising its efforts in promoting child welfare and protection.
Dr. Abdulqadir Abu, Secretary-General and Commissioner of the Childhood Care Council, stated that they have successfully integrated over 300 children into the community through the Child Sponsorship Project, in accordance with the regulations and laws governing social services indicators.
Dr. Abu emphasized the importance of focusing on children, particularly during times of war, as they are often the victims of conflict. He noted that the council is working to develop a comprehensive approach to child care and protection, and is optimistic about the new government’s commitment to promoting child welfare, under the leadership of Dr. Kamal Idris and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Human Resources.
The Childhood Care Council’s achievements demonstrate its dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children in Sudan, and its collaboration with UNESCO and other partners is crucial in promoting child rights and protection.
